Diabetes management

What is it?

Diabetes is a condition when the pancreas is slow working or not at all, and as an effect does not produce enough insulin.

Certain foods (carbohydrates) are no longer used by the body in the normal way, causing the blood sugar (glucose) level to be elevated, this can have both short term and long term effects.

The management of diabetes depends on the type of diabetes and the person's health, and can include diet and exercise, tablets or insulin injections.

Our nurses can help you by:

  • Providing education about diabetes and how to manage it

  • Helping you manage your diabetes independently

  • Monitoring your blood glucose levels

  • Administering tablets or insulin if you can't do so
